| Your child's curriculum is based on Gwinnett County's AKS (Academic Knowledge Skills) which is based on Georgia's GPS (Georgia Performance Standards). Gwinnett County lines up its curriculum to insure that your child is learning exactly what they need to learn in order to pass the CRCT (Criterion Referenced Competency Test) which is the Georgia mandated test that all Georgia students must pass each spring. Currently, fifth graders in the state of Georgia must pass reading, math, and science portions. Additionally, in the fifth grade in Gwinnett County, your child is also expected to pass the Writing Gateway given by the state of Georgia in March. Your child is expected to be able to write a narrative, persuasive, and informational paper. However, on the day of testing, your child will only write in one of these genres. Students are randomly given a topic on the day of the test, so they must be prepared to write in all three styles. |
